How have Vietnam films shaped our understanding of the Vietnam War?

Vietnam films have played a significant role in shaping the world's understanding of the Vietnam War. Over the years, movies on the Vietnam War have been released and have influenced how people perceive the war, the soldiers who fought in it, and how Vietnam was affected. Movies and films have created a reality for an audience worldwide that tries to portray what soldiers and Vietnamese citizens were going through in Vietnam during the war. Films have changed how people think of Vietnam Veterans, before being called "baby-killers," to now being much more understood by the public. Films such as "Platoon" and "Apocalypse Now" give Vietnam Veterans a chance to have a platform to share their experiences. The physical and phycological effects of the Vietnam War are shown through curtain scenes in these movies. This has allowed many veterans nationwide to feel more comfortable with their experiences, knowing that plenty of other men have had similar experiences to them. The personal side of these films creates a better understanding of the complexities and harsh realities that many veterans face. Overall many films have shaped how the world perceives the Vietnam War and the soldiers who fought in it.
